Year 6 were lucky enough to have a judge visit them this term! Steve came into school to offer invaluable advice to the children about public speaking ahead of their speech presentation at The Mare and Foal Sanctuary.
Shoebox Appeal – Operation Christmas Child
Wow, what a fantastic response to our Samaritan’s Purse shoe box appeal. A big thank you to all of the families who supported this, we managed to collect over 30 shoe boxes.
Children in Need
Well done to our Year 6 children for organising such a fun day and to everyone who supported Children in Need.
Classes 2, 3 and 4 had a challenging experience when the ‘Dart Rock Mobile Climbing Wall’ arrived in the school car park. All the children had the opportunity to challenge themselves to climb as high as they could.
Classes 3 and 4 had the fantastic opportunity to go to the Dartington Estate to take part in a Maths challenge, orienteering and cross country running. Even though the weather was cold and wet it didn’t dampen the children’s enthusiasm to challenge themselves.
All of the classes in the school took part in a ‘Science Day’, with a focus on working scientifically. Various exciting investigations took place, including bridge building with different materials, cabbage leaf chemistry and designing spinners. All of the children also had the opportunity to use the microscopes on loan from the Royal Microscopic Society and everyone enjoyed being a young scientist for the day.
On Wednesday 18th October we celebrated our Harvest Festival in Berry Pomeroy Church with families and friends. The children led the service with words and music. Donations were collected for the Totnes Food Bank.
Whole School Den Day
Den Day was a success. The children all built dens and raised money for Save the Children. The total will be over £100 which will be donated to the charity.
Super Learners – Mathematicians on a Mission – 3rd October
Our main school focus this year is teaching and learning in maths. At the beginning of the term we had a week of inspirational maths and all the children have identified themselves as
‘Mathematicians on a Mission’.
Our visit to the STEMfest at Plymouth Aquarium was highly successful. The children had a great day. The workshops were exciting and well organised and the children had a great time in the Aquarium. There were four workshops during the day which involved the children in science, technology, engineering and maths. Participation involved each groups in sending coded messages about endangered species by ping pong ball from homemade firing devices, finding out about Tsunamis and designing optimum cargoes for ships to watching divers using robotic devices in the tanks. As always our children were great ambassadors for our school. Well done everyone and thank you to the staff for organising this event
